As you might know I just received a monster of an orchid and it is now time to pot it. I have to say this is the first time I am in the presence of such a big orchid and I am very fond of it.

Truthfully it wasn’t a hard job, the only frustrating part was to remove the pieces of its old medium. I think I spend about an hour trying to do as less damage as possible t the roots system, but I know this will be in the benefit of the plant.
I chose a 21 cm clay pot in which the orchid fit nicely and as my medium of choice I used a mix of hydroton and seramis. It just seems to me that one of this orchid’s parents doesn’t enjoy drought too much, so I will try to avoid having to water this guy every 2 days. The Veitchii is a cross between Angr. sesquipedale and eburneum by the way.
Actually I managed not to destroy too many roots so I am hopeful I’ll have no trouble on the long run. If I feel any foul smell at any point, I’ll just have to go in and cut whatever root died in the process.
