Orchid identification – Encyclia chacoensis.. oh no :(
Here is what was supposed to be my Encyclia fragrans.. it’s chacoensis 🙂 So let’s talk about this one instead since the fragrans is not present in my collection.

The Encyclia chacoensis, recently renamed Anacheilium chacaoense, is an orchid species native to Central America. As we can clearly observe, it is mistaken for Encyclia fragrans or radiata. However the fact that it has 2 leaves instead of one is a pretty clear sign that I have a mislabeled orchid.
Prettiness wise she is pretty, nonresupinate flowers with lime green petals and a lip which reminds of a shell, with thin purple stripes. I do like it, I find it very similar to the Green Hornet so I am not blown away by the appearance, however I hate something about it.
It is fragrant and not mild either. However it is very similar to the green hornet, it reminds me of a horse stable. Ok it’s not that repulsive but it’s not inviting either to me. So I must be off to search for the fragrans now.
