Orchids in bloom – May 2016

Let’s resume the monthly display of orchids in bloom shall we? And for May we had quite a few flowers, even though the move took a big toll on some of them.

The three Cattleyas in the beginning of the video are sadly NoID’s, but I hope that if you see them in the stores you will at least know if they are fragrant or not and a bit about how they smell like.

Phalaenopsis Tzu Chiang Balm managed to show a few blooms but the spike was soon cut. This orchid was repotted recently into inorganic medium, the roots suffered a lot in the old medium so it is time to let her focus on vegetative growth. The fragrance was much better than last year! Cattleya Tokio Magic never disappoints with her showy yellow flowers and gorgeous Lilly fragrance. She is one of my most reliable bloomers. More of her here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5up7k4LdNME

Lycaste aromatica is a new addition to my collection. It is an orchid species that has a great cinnamon oil fragrance. The flowers are tiny but very pretty. More of her here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vq8tleuLKP8

Encyclia chacoensis is a bit of a let down fragrance wise. It smells like a horse stable, not what you’d want in a living room. But at least the flowers are pretty 🙂 More of her here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuWqK1JOE7A
