Orchids with fuzzy flowers #1 – Dendrobium parishii care tips

Today I wanted to do another double spotlight again, but the video was too long even for my standards, so here is the first part: the parishii.

Dendrobium parishii is a deciduous orchid, which loses leaves every year, prior to blooming from the leafless canes. It is the winter rest type of Dendrobium and produces flowers all along the sides of the canes.
The flowers are petite, very sweet magenta colored and moderately fragrant. Maybe the best way to describe them is smelling of raspberries, but I don;t think it is a very striking resemblance.
All summer it needs good water and nutrients and in autumn, these should be reduced. No need for feeding during winter, but light should always be provided, as these orchids don;t go dormant.
The leafless canes usually don’t rebloom, but sometimes a flower or two can appear. Caring for these orchids is quite easy and if you’ve ever grown Nobile type Dendrobiums, these should be very similar.
