Mounting Leptotes bicolor orchid on ceramic slab
This is the Leptotes bicolor orchid, a miniature orchid that is used pretty much like the Vanilla orchid. Its seed pods are flavored and used for ice creams and cakes in some regions. All this without the hassle of growing a very big vine of Vanilla 🙂
I chose to mount this orchid on a ceramic slab that I received from Schwerter. The ceramic slab is heavier than a cork one, but is nice designed to imitate the bark of a tree. It also seems to stay slightly more moist than cork if soaked properly, which I don’t mind in my summer time.
I chose to use fishing line once again since this orchid is quite tiny, I am starting to like this more than the raffia, since it is practically invisible. I also added a bit of sphagnum moss to the slab, I can always add more or take out.
The Leptotes does better on a mount from what I can see, but I am sure it can be grown in a pot as well. Hopefully the ceramic mount will be to its liking, the best thing about it is that it does not degrade 🙂
