Orchid Identification – Phalaenopsis fasciata, a summer blooming species
Phalaenopsis fasciata is a summer blooming orchid species native to the Philippines. Like most Phalaenopsis from the region she is prompted to bloom by sunny days and warm temperatures.

This orchid is a small flowered Phalaenopsis, capable to rebloom on the very same spikes for years, thus it is called a sequential bloomer. The flowers are tiny in comparison with other species, but very eye catching.
The petals are a nice golden yellow and have a maroon stripes pattern, pretty wild in my opinion. The lip is purple and has no fuzz, but overall the flower is waxy and glossy.
I cannot detect any fragrance and as far as I see from other people, this is not known for its fragrance. If some individuals present a fragrance it is usually mild and not very noticeable.
This orchid was falling out of its pot, so we needed to intervene, reason why the flower is at an angle. You can watch the video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kONP52H7rLg
The leaves are light green and glossy as well, making for a nice appearance overall, better than the complex hybrids at least. So if you are into Phalaenopsis species, go for it 🙂
