Requested Orchid updates – Catasetum, Zygopetalum, Vanda

Due to viewer request, here are some updates on my orchids, after the move and settling in period. The good and the bad, because we cannot ever have only good times 😉

The Catasetum orchids fall into the good category, even if they grew crazy roots everywhere for one month. They have no issues establishing and the roots didn’t even feel the change. Or if they did, they didn’t mind, everything is growing fast.

Same for the Neofinetia falcata, she is a very hardy orchid and barely showed any sign of staling. It’s currently growing some very nice new roots.

The Zygopetalum is definitely falling in the bad category, I am just cursed with them. he hated not being potted and being too dry. Lost half of the plant due to depletion and the other half looks poorly. You’ll laugh but I am not surprised at all :)))

The Habenaria medusae.. I think she is no longer with us judging by the smell.

Stanhopea marizana hated being unpotted but sprayed with insecticide so she lost her new growth. But there are 2 new ones on the way!

Vandas are ok, I wasn’t expecting anything else. I will see if the straight hydroton is enough for them, or some Seramis will be needed. they look good and one has a spike.

The Dendrobium Nobile hated being dry, but accepted the situation, they are gaining their good looks slowly, no drama here though.

And the Brassavola Little Stars is.. OK :)) Sh is too large to have staling issues, too much energy stored in those bulbs. Told you 😉
