Cattleya purpurata Orchid in bud! + about cutting flower sheaths
Today we take a look at my Cattleya purpurata and asses a bit her development!

A few days ago I noticed the bud a few days ago trying to break the sheath. It looked like it had some problems and might end up damaging itself, so I had to help it out.
The Cattleya purpurata is a big orchid with very sturdy leaves and pseudobulbs. The sheath is also very strong and protects the buds. However this means buds can get damaged if they cannot properly emerge.
In cultivation growers will help the buds emerge and avoid damage by cutting the top of the sheaths. I did not expect mien to bloom and I think the bud has a bit of damage. But it’s ok 🙂
