Flower spike confirmed on Bulbophyllum orchid! – Cirrhopetalum Elizabeth Ann ‘Buckleberry’
So here is my Bulbophyllum type orchid, the Cirrhopetalum Elizabeth Ann ‘Buckleberry’ producing what is now confirmed as a flower spike.
There is a visual difference between new pseudobulbs and flower spikes. New pseudobulbs will be pretty wide in comparison, green and glossy. Flower spikes will be brown beige, not glossy at all and will look like a sheath.
As the spike grows the tip will elongate and start to form some frills, the buds will start to form as well. At this point I think a pink tinge will start to form as well.
I was slightly neglectful with this orchid, the spike managed to grow into the rim of the pot and when I got to it it was already a bit squashed. However here is no terminal damage, but I really hope the flower will not be too affected.
The flower of this orchid should be pink and very showy. I am hoping the fragrance will not be a bad one, but time will tell. Enjoy!
