Rhynchorides Bangkok Sunset Vanda orchid – Take a moment to enjoy the sunset
The Rhynchorides (Perreiraara) Bangkok Sunset is a monopodial epiphyte orchid hybrid. Blooms are very small, about 1.5 cm in diameter and present a waxy texture. The color is a unique blend of deep oranges that fade into strong yellow shades, while the lip is a striking purple color, making the overall inflorescence a beautiful sight to behold. The flowers stay compact and have the tendency to overlap each other.
The flowers are moderately fragrant, smelling floral and clean. There is nothing bothering about the fragrance and can only be described as a refreshing, floral scent. This orchid releases its fragrance mainly in the first part of the day, towards the evening and night it slowly fades away.
The Rhynchorides Bangkok Sunset is a monopodial orchid that can become tall throughout the years, but its growth rhythm is slow. It produces about 3 or 4 new leaves within a year. Leaves are a medium to light green and the fan measures about 20 cm in length. New leaves sprout from the top of the orchid, but plantlets can appear at the base of the orchid. The leaves can get dark purple spots which look like freckles in bright light.
Overall it is a hardy orchid that doesn’t fuss if its environment is less than ideal. Humidity is not an issue if the orchid is properly watered. It does like very bright light and direct sun, as long as the leaves are not permitted to overheat. If location is not a problem, it can be grown in a normal home with ease.
