Today we are talking about Phalaenopsis orchids which produce a terminal spike. Why this happens and what do we do about it?

Phalaenopsis orchids usually produce spikes from the sides of their axis, under the leaves. Sometimes the spike emerges from the crown of the orchid and damages it. I believe this is due to the inability of the spike to break through the leaf cuticle and develop normally.

In the end we are trying to obtain a keiki, either from the base, or the spike and even from the crown.
