Amazing one flowered Phalaenopsis Orchid! Is this real?
Here is a new purchase called Phalaenopsis Singolo, advertised as the first ever one flowered (Phalaenopsis) Orchid! so can this be real? well let’s take a looksy 🙂
At first glance it does seem to have one flower, but turn it around a bit and it’s clear that the upper portion of the flower spike has been cut. So, no it is not the first ever Phalaenopsis orchid to produce one flower, it is however the first ever Phalaenopsis orchid to be sold with the spike intentionally cut above the first bloom 🙂
About the size of the orchid, well it looks pretty tiny, but make no mistake.. this is no mini orchid! the roots are massive and the leaves look like they have intentionally been grown to remain small. My bet is that the next set of leaves from this orchid will be at least twice the size of the current ones.
The flower is massive yes, the one hybrid that I know of producing these types of blooms is the Sogo Yukidian. Now that one creates an amazing cascade of huge flowers. I suspect this is the very same hybrid that was inhibited and made to stay small.. for a while.
If you want to purchase this orchid because it is tiny and has one flower only.. no don’t. If you want to buy it because it is a Yukidian, yes buy it! it’s quite cheap for a Yukidian 😉
