Can Brassavola Orchids bloom from old canes with dried sheaths?
So today I had the nice surprise to discover a multitude of flower spikes on my Brassavola Little Stars orchid!
The newest canes that grew over the summer are producing spikes, but they are not the only ones. Older canes that were already mature when I purchased this orchid appear to have flower spikes as well.
The bloom sheaths on the older canes were dry and I had no hope f them ever blooming, but now they are plumping up and buds start to crack the dried sheath!
If you have a Brassavola with some dried sheaths just hang in there, care for the orchid and offer bright light. You might have the nice surprise of buds forming when you least expect it 🙂
