Cattleya Peach Sun – a rare, easy to care for orchid hybrid
This is Cattleya Peach Sun, although you might find it under the name LECO Peach Sun. LECO actually stands for (L)imited(E)dition(C)urrlin(O)rchideen.
As this name suggests, you can find this orchid at Currlin Orchideen in Germany, so if you are from Europe and you are thinking of purchasing this orchid, you can find it here http://bit.ly/1Jnops5 This appears to be a rare new orchid hybrid in the hobby, which makes it even more interesting!
The Cattleya Peach Sun is not a registered hybrid, it is a commercial hybrid, so we do not know anything about its parentage, but hopefully soon we will find this orchid in the RHS registry. I have encountered commercial hybrids registered lately in the RHS, so it is not so uncommon to not find them registered yet. New orchid hybrids are produced each year, the most vigorous and beautiful of them all get registered.
This orchid produces beautiful blooms that have a purple spotted and stripped pattern on the petals. The base color is pale pink or peachy. The blooms are very mildly fragrant, with a floral scent. But this is not what I would call a strong scented orchid, so don’t buy it only because of the fragrance or you will be disappointed.
It is a bifoliate Cattleya orchid and seems to be a mini hybrid created to be very tolerant to life in a home and a windowsill. It seems pretty compact as long as you train it to grow upwards. Here is a tutorial on how I train my orchids to grow upwards https://youtu.be/pCOW1AIGEgo
If you don’t know how to care for Cattleya orchids, well learn that they are quite easy to keep even by orchid beginners. I made an easy tutorial that explains the needs of this orchid, you can watch it here https://youtu.be/QhIPWC3s1s0
Also you can find an ID Sheet for this orchid here http://orchidnature.com/orchid-identification-cattleya-peach-sun/ and you can see more pictures and learn about this hybrid, or other orchid hybrids and species.
If you really like this orchid I suggest you go ahead and purchase it, Cattleyas are resilient orchids and with a bit of knowledge, this hybrid can do very well in your home. You really don’t need a greenhouse for these Cattleya orchid hybrids!
