Coelogyne cristata orchid update – flower spikes already?
Here is an update on both my Coelogyne cristata orchids. The big lady at the beginning of this video was purchased a few months back, she has grown a few new pseudobulbs which sadly are smaller than the previous ones. This is quite normal when an orchid undergoes some stress, in my case I bet the stress was caused by the change in environment and also the heat wave.
There are also signs of leaf tip dieback, which I can attribute again to the heat and probably lack of moisture. However the orchid is not dying, which is always good news.
On all the new mature pseudobulbs I seem to have some strange growths. I cannot tell if they are flower spikes or another set of new pseudobulbs. As far as I know this orchid takes a cold winter rest that induces blooming. It also produces one new set of pseudobulbs per year. So these growths are a surprise indeed.
The small Coelogyne is a seedling that I saved and I’ve grown for the past 2 years. It is doing nicely but I doubt I will see any blooms soon.
