Cutting Cattleya orchid sheath to save the flowers
My Cattleya orchid is in need of some assistance, due to the fact that her sheath is too large for the flower spike she produced. Thus the flower display is horrible and there is a chance that they will damage each other as they open.
I used a cutter to cut the sheath as delicately as I could. After the sheath was cut the spike was free and the display looked a lot better. I also staked the spike to give it more sturdiness.
I think complex hybrids are prone to having small anomalies due to their rich genetic heritage, so I find this intervention to be justified. All that matters is that you enjoy the bloom display of your orchid.
