Today we take a look at one of my recent acquisitions, the Dendrobium Snow Jade. Since I was caught up in other things, he got neglected and puff, aphid town over night!

Getting rid of aphids is luckily an easy business. They do tend to feed on new growth and anything fresh and soft, rather than older leaves or growths. Therefore the flower spikes were removed and with them a great part of the colony.
Next a good shower at the sink removed the majority of adults remaining on the orchid. The real treatment though is soapy water!
Aphids are really sensitive to soaps, a solution of water and a few drops of any dish soap is enough to kill everything even from first application. Just to be sure a second application in a few days is not a bad idea. If only other pests would be as easy to eradicate 😛
