Orchid pots are usually different than normal house plants and there are very good reasons for it. Phalaenopsis orchids are epiphytes, they don’t like soil and they need a very well ventilated pot.

When repotting orchids, the roots will attach more to clay pots, or other textured surfaces, than plastic pots.

The size of the pot needs to provide enough space not only for the existing roots, but also the new roots which the orchid will grow in about 2 years.
