Orchid Identification – Phalaenopsis Brother Sara Gold

Here is a very pretty orchid called Phalaenopsis Brother Sara Gold. I always enjoy the ‘Brother’ hybrids, even if they are complex hybrids, they do seem to have a uniqueness to them and I am looking for more.

This orchid is a cross between Phalaenopsis Sara Lee and Phalaenopsis Taipei Gold. The main aspects I was drawn to were the color obviously and the shape of the flower.
A bright rusty orange is the first thing that greets you about this orchid. However this is only made by a multitude of orange freckles, placed on a solid yellow background. As the flower ages, it becomes more yellow, however it’s not a very fast change.
The shape of the flower is very rounded, making for an almost perfect symmetry and rending me a bit of Vanda orchids. However the foliage gives it away, it has very typical complex hybrid leaves, though a bit more rounded and a bit more light in color. It’s also not the tiniest or compact thing you’ve ever seen, it will not really save you space.
A little bonus to this orchid is the fragrance. Florakl and fruity, quite appealing, the fragrance is very mild and one would need to stick their nose into the flower to properly feel it. At least it’s not nothingness 🙂
