Orchid maintenance #1 – Removing sheaths & affected leaves + Biggest color changer ever?
Today we take care of some orchids which could use some help! Also, could this Miltoniopsis be a color changer?
🦋 More info below! 🦋
Leaf damage is sometimes to be expected. Nature is not picture perfect and blemishes are, to some extent, normal for older leaves. If there are spots which extend and take over more and more fo the leaves, or other structures, we need to intervene. Removal of affected parts is usually enough to treat a problem, otherwise we are just going to witness a case of natural selection… no one wants to see that :/
Cosmetic blemishes are unsightly, but don’t pose any problems to the orchids. They can be removed though for a nicer look.
Some orchids should not be groomed, such as the Maxillaria tenuifolia, as they hold on to dried leaves to protect the roots!
A while back I bought a Miltoniopsis Red Tide, check it out here https://youtu.be/I6YZnXWxIaE
