Phalaenopsis Tzu Chiang Balm – The small fragrant orchid
The Phalaenopsis Tzu Chiang Balm is a renowned hybrid, not necessarily for its appearance, but for its fragrance. It produces tiny flowers on a pretty long, branching flower spike, that have a citrusy, slightly fruity and sweet fragrance. The color of the flowers can vary, from a washed peach, brown to a more intense peach pink.
The parents of this orchid are Phalaenopsis An Tai Jade and Phalaenopsis Stone Dance, making this a complex hybrid.
The foliage of this orchid is nothing out of the ordinary, pretty big leaf span and a slight resemblance with a species Phalaenopsis rather than the usual complex hybrids. The leaves tend to lean down and are pretty flimsy and thin. They present a slight gloss to them which can make them more appealing.
Overall I purchased this one for its fragrance which is really to my liking, since it has a sweet fruity quality to it. It seems to smell more powerful in the morning hours until noon and is overall a pretty healthy and good looking orchid. Enjoy!
