Potting Cattleya Orchid in inorganic media
Here comes the turn of the Cattleya orchid to make the switch to clay medium. Cattleya recently became my top favorite orchid family, along with the Oncidium intergenerics.

Since this orchid loves a light and ventilated medium, I am going more for a 50-50 mix of hydroton and seramis, honestly it’s more hydroton. I know I will need to water her more frequent, but the pot size will help as well and also I don’t want to have issues in the colder months. Not that it will be super cold, but still I might run into molds and other nasty things if the potting mix doesn’t dry fast.
I have also discovered the importance of keeping a Cattleya tidy, so I am trying to make those pseudobulbs as compact as I can fr their sake. This one is already hardened so things are not super tidy, but it’s better than having them flop all over the place.
Will make maintenance and watering videos soon for all the orchids I potted in inorganic media. So far things are looking promising 🙂
