Separating Vanda orchid keiki from mother plant
I am forced to remove a vanda orchid keiki, though I normally wouldn’t do that. The mother plant developed crown rot so I think it is better to separate her from the baby orchid.
It is fairly easy, but make sure first that the keiki is big enough and has roots. Just grab it as close to its base as possible and pull away from the mother orchid. It will most of the times come off, or simply let you see better where the connection is.
If the connection is strong, use a sharp knife and cut it, make sure you don’t cut into the keiki’s stem though! Afterwards it is your choice to keep the keiki either hanging, mounted, potted or in a glass vase.
