Stabilizing leaning Phalaenopsis Orchid
Sometimes orchids have a tendency to literally grow out of the pot if they are top heavy and don;t have a great root system to stabilize them. However I have a method for both sympodial and monopodial orchids.

With sympodial orchids that have a pendant growth it’s quite easy to apply this, but a repot is needed. You can watch my video on it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lC428Nte_yI
With monopodial we need to adapt things, as they don;t have canes or rhyzomes to help with stabilizing, however we can surely work with the roots if there are any.
I use a raffia thread that I feed through the drainage whole, add medium around it and place the orchid at the desired level. Then pass the thread over some of the rots and tie it on the outside of the pot. This keeps my orchid from falling out of the pot no matter how top heavy it is.
In time as the roots attach to the sides of the pot I can chose to completely remove the wire and things are pretty much done 🙂
