Strange things Cattleya orchids do
Cattleya orchids are always full of surprises aren’t they? they are so surprising that sometimes they make me nervous..
My Cattleya Hawaiian Splash Lea had a growth that was mutilated by the side of the pot. I didn’t see it in time and was ready to call it a fail. So I dissected the growth since it was mutilated anyway and I found 4 buds ready to grow.. The sheath covering them was really stiff so I am not sure they would have made it through if I didn’t cut it.
The C.G. Roebbling is making some sort of growth too. It should have produced a sheath but didn’t. All I see is an undeveloped thing that strangely started to plump and grow in the past few days. I can see something poking through.. could there be buds? will they be deformed? Who knows.
The Cattleya Tropical pointer doesn’t feel like blooming from its current sheath, but in the new growth I can feel some strange bumps. I am not sure if they are buds, if they are then they are here a bit early. I cannot do anything about this one other than wait. So that’s what I shall do.
